In light of the recent success of The Matrix franchise and the immensely popular Star Wars universe, it is clear that creators are moving away from traditional single medium stories to a new format. This format is called transmedia storytelling, and uses numerous media and several genres of those media to tell a story. At this time, most transmedia stories are spread across film, television, both live action and animated, video games, books or the internet. This transition is not entirely positive in the increasingly media saturated world we live in. As stories begin to cross from one medium to another, they force consumers to spend more of their time exploring the worlds created by the new stories. This search for knowledge replaces other, more traditional enterprises. With much of the exploration taking place on an individual scale, it is reducing social interactions of the average person, resulting in adults who are socially underdeveloped, as their only social interactions would have been through chat rooms other on-line conversations, or a group search for new information about the story. With this information, it is clear that transmedia stories have not yet reached a point where they can completely replace traditional narratives.
